Participate in an impactful, hands-on experience where you and your team will work alongside scientists from a leading Australian nonprofit to help identify and analyse samples of microplastic pollution at the beach.
Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic smaller than 5mm, that have infiltrated every corner of our environment — from the oceans to the air we breathe and even our food.
By joining this experience, you and your team will turn into citizen scientists, helping collect crucial data that pinpoints plastic pollution hotspots, empowering governments and communities to take action and develop solutions.
Have your team engage in a meaningful volunteer experience that has real impact. Below are packages offered depending on location and duration of your experience:
- Scientist for a Day (3.5 hours): Collect microplastic samples, listen to get an educational talk on microplastics by a scientist, discussion on personal solutions, and participate in scientific analysis with findings contributing to a national microplastic database.
- Scientist for a Day (5.5 hours): This option includes elements from the above package along with a personal action planning session with in-depth team building discussions about minimising plastic use and an event report addressing company KPIs.
- Office Sorting Workshop (1-2 hours): A shorter session at your office that includes an engaging microplastics presentation, sorting of latest microplastic samples under the guidance of expert scientists, and watching scientists analyse findings in real-time.
In Sydney, beach location options include Rose Bay, Manly Cove, or Botany Bay. This experience is also available in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth or Brisbane locations across Australia.
Over the past six years of this program, 850+ samples have been collected and over 45 microplastic hotspots identified across Australia.
Prices start from $150 per person and proceeds go towards supporting nonprofit organisation AUSMAP (Australian Microplastic Assessment Project) in tackling microplastic pollution in Australia.
