Join an inspiring tour of an urban micro farm created in Mark’s (@plantbasedmale) flourishing backyard whilst learning how to grow your own produce and sampling tasty garden treats.
Your knowledgeable and passionate host Mark, has successfully created a thriving 250 square metre garden recognised by the likes of ABC’s Gardening Australia and Humans Who Grow Food.
This is an exclusive tour where you will personally see permaculture principles in action, learn the benefits of urban homesteading, and be inspired to grow your own produce — no matter the size of your growing space. Mark has chickens, honey bees, and has grown over 50 varieties of fruit, vegetables, herbs and rhizomes.
Your group can choose from the following options:
- Walking tour: A 1.5-2 hour tour of Mark's urban micro farm with homesteading concepts and demonstrations.
- Educational tour: A 2.5 hour educational tour where you'll learn about plant characteristics and requirements, soil quality and preparation, plant health and maintenance, harvesting, and preservation of harvested produce. An engaging tour with demonstrations and sampling of garden treats.
- Optional add ons: Ginger beer workshop, morning tea, other workshops depending on season
The modern system of food production accounts for nearly a third of all greenhouse gas emissions and has negative environmental impacts from deforestation to fertiliser and pesticide runoff in waterways. Growing your own food has many benefits, from eating more nutritious, organic, fresh produce to minimising your impact on the planet.
Get your team or friends to come on a unique, inspiring experience where you’ll witness firsthand how you can transform an urban space into one that yields fresh, organic produce. Prices start from $20 per person.
Note:
- This is a garden environment with areas of uneven terrain and stairs that are not wheelchair accessible.
- There are honeybees on site so this experience may not be appropriate for those allergic to bees.
- Please wear comfortable outdoor attire and closed-toe shoes
- The tour is not recommended for young children
- If the weather is forecasted for heavy rain or wind, this event will be rescheduled to a later date
